We’ve written before about how the likelihood of hearing loss increases as we age. Age-related hearing loss is the most common cause of hearing loss and today’s hearing fact explains one simple reason why: the hair cells (cilia) in our ears that are critical to hearing acuity wear out over time.
This shouldn’t be surprising. Pretty much every part of our anatomy weakens with age. But with hearing loss, the good news is (A) we can hopefully push off the irreversible damage by using smart hearing protection measures during our life and (B) we can treat hearing loss with hearing aids, so it doesn’t have to impact our quality of life.
The best defense is a good offense. We recommend finding an experienced hearing healthcare professional who can advise you on all your hearing care questions and needs. To locate one near you, call 08000 683 533 or click here.
